| While
in Europe, for
an unexplained reason, Damon was releasing music under the Chrome name
and his own. There's several assumptions: the opportunity to release more
music on different labels, to explore other musical grounds, or just to
see his name in big bold letters on an album cover. Alliance is the first
one of four "Damon Edge" albums. It's far from a departure from
the Chrome sound, but there's some new ingredients; Damon reinventing
himself as a dark crooner with a feet in pop music and an other in spacey
experimentations. Alliance sounds very much as his predecessor Zombie
King, yet it's more organic with his piano low-keys and his ethnic percussions.
A strange practice takes also place on the album, something Damon will
make again on further albums: to reapropriate old melodies from past songs
(mainly written with Helios) and recontextualise them in new tunes. That
said, Alliance remains as one of the best Damon albums with his nearest
song to be a hit: I'm A Gentleman. |
